ABSTRACT. Two-hundred and twenty actinomycete strains,
isolated from grapevine berries, were tested for their
antagonistic activity against 107 yeasts, associated with sour
rot, and 10 mycelial fungi, all belonging to the same
environment. Antibiosis appears widespread, more than half of
the Actinomycetes showing activity against either the yeasts
or the fungi and organisms grouped in the Streptomyces
albidoflavus cluster being the most active. The antibiotics
isolated include antimycins, chartreusin and rubromycin.
