Volume Growth Of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze In Three Regions Of Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil Hess, André Felipe & Schneider, Paulo Renato Abstract The objective of the present work was to study the volume growth of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze individuals, in function of tree ages, in the region of Planalto Médio, Encosta Superior do Nordeste and Serra do Sudeste in Rio Grande do Sul. For this sake, growth equations were fitted to growth data generated to different tree ages estimated by dendrocronology. Backman’s growth equation demonstrated to be efficient with the application of dummy variables, allowing the identification of growth differences according to the region being studied. In order to reduce estimative errors, different equations are needed for each place. Results demonstrated that, in each studied region, the species showed different form and velocity of volumetric growth. In Serra do Sudeste, the maximum annual mean increment in volume was 0.0311 m3 at 56 years-old; in Planalto Médio was 0.0198 m3 at 46 years-old; and, in the Encosta Superior do Sudeste was 0.026 m3 at 48 years-old, indicating a good potential of mean growth in the studied regions. Crescimento Em Volume De Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze Em Três Regiões Do Rio Grande Do Sul, Brasil Hess, André Felipe & Schneider, Paulo Renato Resumo O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o crescimento de volume em função da idade da Araucaria angustifolia , nas regiões do Planalto Médio, Encosta Superior do Nordeste e Serra do Sudeste do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isso, foram gerados dados de crescimento por idade por dendrocronologia e ajustadas equações de crescimento. A equação de Backman mostrou-se eficiente com aplicação de variáveis dummy, permitindo identificar diferenças no crescimento para as regiões estudadas, indicando haver à necessidade de equações separadas para cada local, o que permite minimizar erros de estimativas. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que em cada região a espécie apresenta forma e velocidade de crescimento volumétrico diferenciado. Na Serra do Sudeste o incremento médio anual máximo foi de 0,0311 m3 aos 56 anos; no Planalto Médio foi de 0,0198 m3, aos 46 anos; e, na Encosta Superior do Nordeste foi de 0,026 m3, aos 48 anos de idade, indicando um bom potencial de crescimento médio em volume nestas regiões de estudo.
