Abstract

In a sandy soil, belonging to the tropical Dry Forest, located to the West of Monagas state, was conducted an experiment, during three years under dryland conditions, with the sugar cane varieties; V58-4, V64-10, V68-74, V68-78, CP56-59, B6749, PR61-632 and PR62-258 in order to select those that adapted more to those agroclimatic conditions. A randomized complete block design was used with three replications. It were seeded twelve buds by lineal meter. As source of fertilizer and correction it was used triple superphosphate, potassium chloride, urea, oxide of magnesium and agricultural lime at the rate of 200 kg/ha of Nitrogen, P2O5 and K2O; 50 of oxide of magnesium and 100 kg of agricultural lime (98 % of CaCO3). The studied traits were: Tons of cane for hectare (TCH); Pol cane percent (PPC); Tons of Pol for hectare (TPH) and Efficiency (TCH/TPH). It was carried out an analysis of variance and the test of Tukey, using the SAS program. The varieties with higest yield of cane (TCH) were PR62-258 (107.49), B67-49 (96.46), PR61-632 (95.72) and CP 56-59 (95.13). The varieties with higest Pol % (PPC) were: PR62-258 (15.02 %), V58-4 (14.63 %) and V68-78 (14.39 %). The varieties with the higest tons of Pol for hectare were: PR62-258 (14.96), PR61-632 (12.96), CP56-59 (12.40) and V58-4 (12.15). The varieties with the highest efficiency (TCH/TPH) were: V58-4 (6.85), PR62-258 (6.94) y V68-78 (7.11). The varieties that showed the better adaptation to those agroclimatic conditions were: PR62-258, PR61-632 and V58-4
