Los tratamientos evaluados fueron: king grass con 50 kg N/ha/corte (testigo), king grass asociado con Psophocarpus tetragonolobus, king grass asociado con Macroptilium atropurpureum check for this species in other resources , king grass asociado con Centrosema macrocarpum check for this species in other resources y king grass asociado con Centrosema pubescens check for this species in other resources .

Abstract

With the purpose of evaluating dry matter yield and nutritive value of a king grass ( Pennisetum purpureum check for this species in other resources cv. king grass) pasture fertilized with nitrogen and associated with legumes, it was carried out an experiment at CENIAP Experimental Field, located in Maracay, Aragua state. Soils are sandy loam and neutral to alkaline pH, with medium P content. Treatments consisted of: king grass fertilized with 50 kg ha-1 harvest-1 (control), and king grass associated with Macroptilium atropurpureum check for this species in other resources , Centrosema pubescens check for this species in other resources , Centrosema macrocarpum check for this species in other resources , and Psophocarpus tetragonolobus check for this species in other resources , for a total of five treatments. Plots were fertilized at establishment and maintenance fertilization was done at the beginning and end of the rainy season. Experimental design consisted of a complete randomized design with three replications. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, using Tukey test when F was significant (P<0.05). Results showed significant differences (P<0.01) among treatments for total annual dry matter production, and by harvest, having the highest yields those treatments with legumes present (24 to 30 t DM ha-1 year-1). In addition, protein, phosphorus, and calcium content were higher in the biomass of treatments with legumes, confirming the beneficial effects of having legumes associated with grasses.
